My husband is considering a job change which would move us from Twin Cities, MN to the Allentown area. WOULD LOVE ADIVCE!!!

We are looking for a place where families are friendly, schools are good, congestion is minimum, and living is easy (can we find that here?).

We have 4 kids, we homeschool (but are community involved so schools are still important), we are heavy into sports (baseball, hockey, figure skating, soccer -- the kids), we enjoy outdoor pursuits (fishing, hiking, biking, camping) and shopping malls and of small importance.

We are looking for a home that is not in an affluent area, but safe and nice.

Someone recommended Emmaus from the company he would be working for.

What are your thoughts? I'm sure my husband would be willing to commute 45 minutes if it would mean a wonderful environment for his family.

~THANKS for all the imput you may have~

For the area, Southern Lehigh is a little expensive, but all the schools welcome home schoolers to participate in some of the activities. We just had a home schooler graduate after four years of marching band. They are also allowed to participate in the dramas and musicals. I know a few kids that did instrumental music including small group lessons in elementary school and choir, band and jazz band in Middle school.

Emmaus and the East Penn School district is very nice but is growing very quickly. I believe that all of their schools are at capacity right now but people keep moving into the area. You can only build so fast....

Thanks for letting me know about homeschool participation in school functions/activities. Interesting....

I have been looking around more and saw that Bethlehem has a nice ice arena (my daughter is a figure skater and son is hockey player....yes, we live in Minnesota!) so perhaps I should look within an easy commute to their since I don't want a long drive to the arena.
