The previous record decline was 6.3 percent, recorded in April 1991. The index tracks prices of existing single-family homes in 10 metropolitan areas.
The Lehigh Valley continues to buck the national trend. The average price of an existing home in Lehigh and Northampton counties rose 2.3 percent in October, measured year-over-year. In November, local sales prices were even better, rising 6 percent, according to the Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors.

'Tis a bloody shame that salaries aren't rising by as much annually so that folks could continue to purchase homes. The same fate awaits my Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area as well I'm sure in the coming years.

Continuing a trend, home sales in the Lehigh Valley continued to fall in January from the previous month one year ago and those that did stayed on the market longer.
A report released today by the
Lehigh Valley Association of Realtors showed that home sales plunged 17 percent from January 2007 and 11.5 percent from December 2007.
Prices, however, are not plummeting. The average sales price for January for a home in the Lehigh Valley was $222,000, according to LVAR, up from $215,000.
The median sales price - the point at which an equal number sell for above and below that price - is up slightly to $192,000, from $190,000 in January 2007.
The average days for homes on the market until sale rose in January 2008 was 68 days, according to LVAR, a spike from 61 days a year ago.

I am doing a total rehab on a house that has 2 units my neighbor hooked me up with an honest Christian contractor, the framing electric and plumbing is done on one unit sheetrock is finished it needs paint new windows and doors.
The forced air furnace was shot and need a new one found a contractor my bad luck with contractors has ended. The ones now are A-OK.
Am awaiting the arrival of spring to the Lehigh Valley, I see the birds have returned small like sparrows but with white feather under belly. Are those swallows? In any case 4 more weeks untill spring!!

That's still pretty good. Sounds like it's still a sellers market. The bottom end still remains below $150k which is affordable to most and the gains provide those already in a house with enough equity to move up. There also remains strong job growth. The only market that's hurting are the $400k+ new subdivision homes that were over built.
