No to Reservoir Road - Kanis is a very busy road, that's where Baptist Medical Center is. John Barrow and Kanis intersect 4 blocks north of these apartments. The lower end of Kanis (east) is 12th St.

I wouldn't go any further south on John Barrow.

Here's an off-the-wall recommendation for someone on a budget. Check out a small complex called Out in the Woods; it's across Kanis from Baptist Hospital. I lived there for a year. It was a much better experience than I expected.

Is that still a good place to live? It was fabulous at one time and then went over the cliff...there are some apts. on S. Rodney Parham, Governor's Park? Also you might look at Tanglewood and Watergate - Tanglewood was very reasonable the last time I checked, but it's a ways from UALR. Actually, it's probably no further than Out in the Woods, though....or Reservoir, for that matter, and much closer to large grocery stores and some shopping. Everything in Little Rock that is commercial other than the mall has moved deep west. Deep, deep west - but the prices reflect that. I think you'd be really happy more in town and closer to UALR and not have to fight that stupid I-430/I-630 traffic every day.

Oh, Tanglewood (at corner of Mississippi and Cantrell) is a very, very good suggestion, Sam. It's a very small, very quiet complex. Rent is very reasonable and (last I checked) included utilities. Definitely worth a shot.

As far as Out in the Woods, I lived there 2000-2001, so it may have gone way downhill in the last few years. The thing I liked most about it was that it was locally owned unlike most other complexes in LR. The people in the office were much more anxious to fix things and keep you satisfied as a customer/tenant because the complex was the owner's only business holding.
