West Fairview, right off of Rockaway Avenue, SD24

Can anyone tell me their thoughts on this area. I saw a house which looks wonderful and at a very reasonable price plus it's within sd#24 which i have found through research and speaking with people, that is might be preferable to 30.

I do realize from looking at a map that the house being right off of Rockaway Avenue on West Fairview, it is right by the stores on West Fairview and the corner of Rockaway which might make it less desirable for some however for us, we are just concerned with safety and how the area and homes are maintained, not so concerned (or cant be due to price range) if its close to stores (not sucha huge deal for us unless at night when the street and parking lots become vacant, it attracts less desirable conditions.

So, just asking, how's this area, in your opinion of course.

Just as a reference because of course its all relative to where one comes from...grew up in North East Queens and still live here. Bayside/Fresh Meadows.

The biggest "beef" you'll see regarding Valley Stream is its changing demographics. Some people are ok with it, others aren't. Its a personal decision to you in terms of what you are looking for in a neighborhood.

For a Queens reference: Is it Jamaica? No.More like a Bellerose/Queens Village mixture.

I know that area. It's fine there and the homes are maintained. The stores will be convenient for you. Rockaway Ave. does get quieter late at night, but it is not usually frequented by sketchy people hanging out. Before 10 PM. there are still people going to Mitchell's, Itgens, pizza places. SD 24 is considered to be more desirable than SD 30. I assume this house is zoned for Brooklyn Ave. School. It's not all that different from Bayside/Fresh Meadows.

any input on Brooklyn school? how do i find out definately which school its zoned for?

i did a little research on the 3 elementary schools. saw that they all had pretty good ratings but it seemed that Carbonaro was best but also stats are just stats and cant always go off of them

Yes, this is the incorporated village of Valley Stream. Brooklyn Ave. is the smallest of the 3 schools in the district. I used to know the schools really well, but I've been out of the loop for a while. I haven't heard anything bad about them recently. The area used to be heavily Italian, but it has become more diverse, but when I say diverse, I really mean diverse with people from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. There is a new condominium being built near the train tracks I would be happy to try to answer any more of your questions. Do you have children?

Default Census Bureau's address search function

You can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) that house is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP, or Census Designated Place, is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)

And, very importantly, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.
