How much is it to change two windows into sliding doors? (price, plumbing)

I have two windows that I want to combine and make into sliding doors. There is about a foot inbetween the windows and they are very long already. I know there are different grades of doors, etc but I am looking for a general price range from anyone who has done this. Thank you in advance.

Without any surprises, I would estimate between 1,000 and 1,500 for labor plus the cost of the sliding glass doors. This would include removal of old windows, framing out the new opening, installing the new doors, finishing both interior and exterior surfaces, and insulating the space around the new doors. This is a whole day of work probably requiring a carpenter and a helper.

Chances are you're going to run into a surprise, though. $1,500 for labor and framing/finish materials (excluding doors) is rather cheap.

without having someone look at it, its very hard to estimate.

for 1) if you have 1ft between the windows, that tells me that there probably isn't a continious header over both, thus its more than just the removal of a few 2x4s.
2) in reframing they will have to cut out pieces of the interior wall, and probably the exterior siding, this will have to be repaired and repainted with new molding.
3) this is all assuming there isn't electric, plumbing or HVAC under the windows in the wall
4) the door should run $800 and up if you're getting something like an Andersen, skys the limit depending on brand, series, and options


basically $1500 in labor would be cheap, might be possible if everything were best possible case sceneros. more likely more $.

That varies from Town to Town.

Just make sure you have permits/COs for everything in your house. Once the Town is in your home, they can (and often will) look at everything.

Removal is easy and cheap. Just drive a car through the wall.
