Anyone use the window film to seal their windows, something like the one below and any experience on whether it actually works?

I used it last year and used 150 gallons less oil. Don't know how much of it is attributed to it simply being a warmer winter vs having windows insulated.

Thanks.

I have used it and it does a good job of stopping the drafts. The down side is the double stick tape you put around the perimeter, gets messy. I chose a type with reusable channels, it has a removable bead that you put the film in then the bead and heat. Less mess and the channels are pretty much covered up by curtains.

I suspect that this is an advertisement, but I'll bite. It is a good product - albeit overpriced for tape and plastic wrap. Still...

It increases your r-value by 1. So, a crappy window will go from an r of 1 to an r of 2. It also kills drafts.

are these better than the plastic sheets that you just tape up around the surrounding frame rather than shrink filming it on the glass? It's also Frost King.

Why do you suspect it is an advertisement?

I was looking into this myself... FrostKing. Saw some ads from Home Depot. I plan on installing something like this for the winter for the bedrooms and the living room area. The drafts are the killer for my house.

Saw poor reviews from Amazon.com about FrostKing regarding the tape. Apparently people like the 3M versions better:

Trust me, Frost Kink stinks. Spend the extra money and look for the 3M brand

The tape from last year came off cleanly from 6 of the 7 windows i taped.
On one window, about 1/2 inch of paint came off with the tape but not very noticeable.

And this is not an advertisement, just wanted to see if other people used this and their feedback. With this tape on, my den is warmer than the rest of the house, where before it was always cold downstairs.

Again, just my experience and looking to see if others had a good/bad experience with this setup.
