This thread is a big hit on the NYC forum. I'm interested to read what are the well kept secrets on Long Island. I'll start off with Fisher's Island. I've been to Shelter Island but because of the difficulty of getting to Fisher's I never been there. I have been told it's a really quaint part of Suffolk County.
I've really never been to the North Shore much, I mean, I rarely have been north of the Northern State Parkway. The only times I have was to see that Teddy Roosevelt mansion as a kid and to the Walt Whitman Mall and of course a few other rare occasions.
I'd like to drive through Old Westbury and Brookville one day too.
I'd also like to see;
- Roosevelt Field Mall
- The Hamptons
- Riverhead
- The top of the Fire Island lighthouse.. Hey, is it true that you can see the NYC skyline from the top of it on a clear day?

Start with Sands point. Also at the tip (lighthouse or sands light rd on the shore at night) there is a breathtaking, almost perplexing view of the city.
For those of you who've never been up to the North Shore, try visiting Caumsett State Park in Lloyd Harbor on a nice day. Walking trails, biking, fishing (with permit). Lloyd Mansion also.
I want to get out to Montauk again - only been there twice and didn't stay long enough to see or do too much. Want a nice, but not expensive, place on the ocean, near the town and golf for hubby of course.

Is it legal to be there and legal to park somewhere?
