Our country should be striving to reduce the size of all school districts, not increase them. For the benefit of ALL our children. Diversity is not the issue here. Some interesting statements. The primary benefit of a larger district is a reduced cost of administration & facilities when you looks at the positions each district maintains to run the district just eliminating one set can provide a significant saving. Students historically remain at their regular schools and class size should not be affected unless there is an extreme disparity between the 2 districts.
If bullying increases when kids of different schools are combined then middle school must be one big fight. After all you normally have several elementary schools going to the same ms. At some point in their lives kid do need to meet someone from outside their neighborhood..
It can be a good thing.
Charter Schools may succeed for two reasons, one they have a selective criteria for admission which gleans the top x% and two the parents of those kids are involved, thats the key reason. The parents make the difference not the schools.
From comments most posters place when it comes to school budgets I don't think you will find many willing to pay more school tax so the districts can be made smaller. Class size should be maintained regardless of the district size but it's not practical or cost efficent to have every class with only 15 kids. Mine adveraged 18-20 during their elementary years in 2 very large districts with no loss of quality.
Good luck in your fight to maintain what you feel is right...
