I remember reading awhile back that it was proposed to build a train station off of Rte 110 on Conklin St. across from Airport Plaza. Long story short, the plan was rejected because it would cost too much.
How could the governing bodies not see the potential for a train station right by Rte 110? I know alot of people who commute far east and west of the area, some as far as White Plains. Having a station there would increase the number of train commuters (herego money for the LIRR), thereby reducing the number of cars on rte 110 while stimulating more business and even job opportunities. Taxi service would've made a killing driving people to/from their jobs, local shops, restaurants, nightlife, and even SUNY Farmingdale. With more foot traffic by the station, other shops and eateries could have opened next to it. Republic Airport would have most likely received more business, not to mention they could have finally gotten rid of those decrepid abondoned buildings along Conkllin St. as well as the Pinelawn station (does anybody even use that stop?). I really hope they reconsider it someday.
So what about you? Where would you like to have a LIRR stop? Doesn't have to just be on the island. I know some people would love to have a track go directly to Grand Central, or even Laguardia Airport. Where else?

how many would be new commuters and how many would be existing commuters relocating from other stations (such as huntington) and thus not providing any additional revenue?

i'm surprised no one has ever thought of this, ever... you should contact the mta
Central Branch, at the Sunrise Highway trestle in Lindenhurst. Or perhaps where the Central crosses 110. For that matter, it'd be good to see more trains headed up the branch from Babylon. Be a perfect way for Suffolk County south shore residents to commute to the busy government, employment and shopping areas of Hicksville, Westbury and Mineola.
Roosevelt Field. It would def. help to alleviate the parking situation there.
Carle Place is a stop near the the mall already. As is Mineola, which has a number of direct bus routes to Roosevelt Field, where, generally speaking, you never have to wait more than ten minutes for a bus to the mall.

Was just about to say that - Carle Place, but then who wants to cross Old Country Rd and live to tell about it?
They do, but as is the case with everything past Ronkonkoma, pfffffffffffft fart.
