These median household income lists are misleading.
Seanx4 and I had a long discussion on this on another thread.
Many areas are a lot poorer than what the Median Household Income is indicating:

Poor for LI

#248 ROOSEVELT Median household income (dollars) $71,277
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $39,030
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $37,455

#283 WYANDANCH Median household income (dollars) $51,493
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $34,534
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $36,743

#230 ELMONT Median household income (dollars) $75,929
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $47,674
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $40,184

So-so/Average for LI

#159 South Floral Park Median household income (dollars) $88,864
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $50,833
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $53,182

#218 DEER PARK Median household income (dollars) $78,056
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $56,488
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $42,555

Avg/mid-upper - upper

#233 ROCKY POINT Median household income (dollars) $74,769
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $64,785
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $44,421

#244 MONTAUK Median household income (dollars) $72,012
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $61,080
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $45,189

#237 FARMINGDALE Median household income (dollars) $73,883
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $63,839
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $53,119

#91 WANTAGH Median household income (dollars) $106,661
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $75,650
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $57,061

#89 MASSAPEQUA Median household income (dollars) $107,181
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $77,859
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $57,016

#38 GARDEN CITY Median household income (dollars) $135,313
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $118,060
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $61,194

#8 SANDS POINT Median household income (dollars) $204,286
Median earnings for male full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $159,205
Median earnings for female full-time, year-round workers (dollars) $51,400

-----
The reason for the discrepancy is lower income areas tend to have larger "household" sizes.
The median household size for LI is about 3.00.
Some areas have as high as 4.00+ and others like Montauk, are well below the 3.00 median. Also, it can be misleading as some hamlets and villages have a higher household composition of children.
