I'm a volunteer at the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, Washington. We specialize in undersea vehicles (Submarines, torpedoes etc) and Navy divers. I'm working on a group of diving-related items that were donated recently. One of the items is an old radio that was used to contact divers underwater. It was made by the Audio Equipment Company, Inc, of Port Washington. I found a few references to the company, including a magazine ad for one of their products - but that was a magazine ad for sale on EBay - from 1962!

Their address was Box 192, Port Washington 34, NY. I assume the company is no longer in business. I tried the Chamber of Commerce and the Library but they didn't have any information. I've learned that the folks who frequent City-Data are great sources of info. Anyone know the history of this company?

Thanks.

If the Audio Equipment Company was a corporation, you might want to check with the Secretary of State of New York State and/or if it issued stocks or bonds, the exchange where these stocks or bonds would've been listed. You may be able to obtain information about the latter from a brokerage house.

Check with NAVSEA in Philadelphia, I am sure there is a paper trail a mile long if the Navy used them as a vendor.
