Teachers have to have their masters by the time they've taught 5 years time. After that they can start earning credits to accumulate what it takes to get different jumps in pay. All built into the system.

It is all on internet - their names, corresponding pay, etc.

Interestingly, I have cousins who live in CT and complained to me recently their real estate taxes are up to $15,500. They live in a 3500 sq.ft. house, on 2.5 acres. I countered with our 2000 sq. ft. house on .5 acre with RE taxes going to $13,500.

Thank you for answering my question. I have two masters degree in education and I say YES that is too high. Way to high. Holy stinking cow high. I am in NY and around her new teachers make 36K, retire around 60K and I think that is high!

And then I say I am sending out my resume ASAP.

I believe she is elsewhere in NY. Not in NYC metro area. Upstate 60K is doing pretty good.

Heck, upstate making 40-60K is living large. Try that in LI, NYC, outer boroughs or NJ/CT with a family - its a tough slough, unless public sector then a little more palatable, but barely.

Not so much - example, property taxes in upstate areas similar to LI (like the capital area) can be about 70% of they are on LI.

Except the house is 80k.

So you have little worth and obscene taxes.

See Syracuse metro.

I was wrong, I just checked and found out my old teachers who are still teaching make 76K a year. And in this area you can buy a very nice house on acreage for 100K with taxes of about 2-3K/year. So yes, I would call that a lot of money for this area.

True, but hudson valley area has higher priced homes and taxes. Not like li, but getting up there.
