Hi
Im CONSIDERING, just CONSIDERING a move back to LI. Of course Im slowly remembering the reasons I left! ($$)
Would some of you please share with me your car insurace rates?
Thanks
I pay about $1100 for the year with GEICO (this rate includes defensive driving). I have a new 2010 Hyundai Elantra with full coverage, excellent driving record and I'm 26 y/o female.
I think everyone is throwing out rates that are comparing apples to oranges sometimes. Someone's description of "Full Coverage" may not be what another person considers "full coverage". There are so many different aspects of the actual amounts of insurance that throwing out numbers is meaningless.
In addition, there are more variables to coverage then that was stated. Lets face it, two people with identical records, identical cars probably will not be paying the same amounts for identical coverage.
Who do you currently have for car insurance? If they write policies in NY, maybe you can stick with them and they won't bump you up so much in price since you said you have no accidents, tickets, good credit, etc.
I just switched from Progressive to 21st Century. 21st was over $400 less. Unfortunatly 21 is ridiculous in NY also. Nearly tripled! ouch
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned The Hartford yet. I found out about them through AARP a few years ago, started using them immediately and have had no reason to complain ever since. They offer good discounts on deductibles to drivers with a clean record so they might be a good option for you.

Exactly!
Your mileage, mileage work related vs. mileage recreational, your age, your credit score, the location where the car is kept, garaged/not garaged, etc., etc., the list goes on.
I haven't really seen anyone mention that it's about where on the island you live too! I used to have Progressive and lived in Holbrook. I moved to Huntington and the insurance jumped about $75/6 mo. Then I switched to Geico when I got my new car and a few months later moved back to Holbrook. This time Geico jumped my policy another $50/6mo just for moving back to Holbrook.
I used to have an 07 Accord (100k/300k/$100comp/$500coll) with Progressive and the insurance was about $650/6mos.
My lease was up and I got a '10 Maxima, Progressive wanted to charge me $1600/6mo for the SAME EXACT COVERAGE! So I switched to Geico and now I am at around $675/6mo.
It's funny because I got quotes for Geico with the Accord and they wanted significantly more than Progressive, now with the new car it's the other way around. Very weird!!
My info - Single Male 25yrs old - 750+ credit score and clean driving record.
