I'm a young business student trying to understand the Long Island market and what exactly Long Islanders want and need. What kind of products or services have limited competition on LI? What kind of business would you as a Long Islander want near you? These are just very general questions for now, but feel free to go into details if you would like.
I would like to see more diners, pizzerias, nail salons, 7-11's, and liquor stores. LI is definitely lacking in those.
I am in Suffolk County.
Good luck!
Thank you for your response. The food service industry is something we are definitely taking a look into. However, it seems to us that several parts of Long Island seem to be over saturated with nail salons and pizzerias. Of course this is only in some areas that we've seen thus far. Unfortunately, we will not consider a liquor store at this time due to certain legal issues and possible future legislation.

Thanks again!
I hate to tell you, but he was being sarcastic. We have a ton of these places but more of a variety of them is always desirable for most. There has been a demand for sonic and now there is one about to open in North Babylon. In and Out Burger, Chick-Fil-A, Bill Gray's, Dairy Queen, the return of Jack in the Box all would be in high demand, american buffets as well. A good laser tag place like Photon (specifically) would be in high demand. It sounds like you are an investor. In Long Island if you open up a new business, it will do great the first year especially if it's a franchise that isn't already here. People ALWAYS like to try something new on the island but be prepared to sell after year 1 because if the product isn't that good alot of people will turn away after the first try.
Suffolk County is definitely great for this but I would try to be on route 347 between Stony Brook to Rocky Point. These are well travelled areas with high demand for variety.
I'm going to dream big here:
1. A real casino (not the Freeport garbage)
2. An indoor water park so I don't have to give my money to Great Wolf in PA
3. An indoor amusement park so I don't have to fly to FL in the winter if I want to go to an amusement park
4. A hotel on Jones Beach so I can stay in a waterfront hotel without leaving LI
5. A minor league hockey team (Islanders don't count, LOL) so I can afford to go to more games.

Some good ideas here.
-CASINO should be done ASAP! Freeport is a farce, they trap you on that vomit boat with offers of free chips to play with. Anyone else see what happened to the 3 biggest poker sites in the world?? PokerStars - USA . (please note, site is defunct, not linking to anything of value, site was raided). We are ripe for a casino.
-Private Bus/Shuttle co's - I'd like to see a private shuttle service to rival LI Bus. Now that gas is a fortune, opportunity knocks.
-My mechanic is closing up shop soon, I'd like to see a lot more honest mechanics & shops on LI.
-More alternative energy stations, biofuels, rapid ev recharging, nat gas fills
-Japanese garden pond installers
-Marijuana dispensing companies (I do not smoke pot)
Well, if the sky is the limit, can we get our very own subway system that will have connection points to the various LIRR hubs?
