It is important to know that there are 3 "Babylons" (from smallest to largest, in order of acreage):

1. There is the Village of Babylon;

2. There is the "Babylon, NY 11702" ZIP Code postal zone, and it includes the Village of Babylon and parts of 2 adjacent hamlets within its service area; and,

3. There is the Town of Babylon, and it includes 3 villages and 12 hamlets as well as the "Babylon, NY 11702" ZIP Code postal zone and 9 other ZIP Code postal zones, within its borders.

A map of the Village of Babylon in the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County:

The Village of Babylon has a different border than does the "Babylon, NY 11702" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Babylon, NY 11702" mailing address and not be in the Village of Babylon and a place can have other than a "Babylon, NY 11702" mailing address and be in the Village of Babylon): places that have a "Babylon, NY 11702" mailing address that are not in the Village of Babylon are in the Hamlet of North Babylon and the Hamlet of West Babylon; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Babylon with a "West Babylon, NY 11704" mailing address.

Yes it is. Nice Village! I used to live there and it's gotten even better over the years!

Default hmm

This might be to far out there BUT Patchogue Village is pretty good also. A lot of places opened up recently. The big project just got approved which will make a lot of affordable housing.

They close the streets down on fridays for people to walk around with vendors and everything. They have christmas parades, a christmas boat parade the saturday before the main street parade. They hold a saint patricks day parade also. The brickhouse always has bands playing. THey have an awesome coffee shop called roast . Which is opening another location on the next street over that will also have a wine bar. There is also the patchogue theater here with the bellport theater no to far away. There is also the ferry to davis park and watch hill on fire island.

A sushi resteraunt is opening up also. Its a pretty busy village that is getting better .

The OP mentioned the need to commute to NYC - Patchogue is not a good commute

If you look hard enough you can find something for 1700-1800 in long beach, but would need to wait until prices drop after summer. the commute into the city from huntington can get tiring very quick. its an hour on the train not counting the time it takes to get to the train station and the time it takes to get to her job from penn station. It also is the worst branch in long island, delayed all the time.

Yes, if you look in the off season you may be able to get something for 1700 in Long Beach but we are looking to move in August and everything we are seeing is 2000 and over, even for a 1 bedroom......Absurd....

Funny, I thought the Ronkonkoma branch was the worst line.....if not for the delays, then for the 1 hour, 20 minute commute.....I honestly do not know how people take the Ronkonkoma train everyday, and then may also have to take a subway to get to their job.....that's 4 hours of your life everyday gone just from traveling.....

But so far our choices seem to be Huntington, Syosset, Babylon, Farmingdale, and MAYBE Rockville Centre.....although it's a little too far west for my tastes, and you have to pay for parking at the train station...
