My wife and I are looking to relocate from the south shore of Long Island to the north shore. Commuting to Manhattan is a big factor for us as are the schools and the community. We have been looking at Manhasset, in particular Munsey Park and sections of Flower Hill (Manhasset school district). The one thing that I noticed is that there aren't many sidewalks in these areas aside from Park Avenue and Manhasset Woods Road. We enjoy walking with our kids (toddlers) on the sidewalk in our current neighborhood and were wondering what people do in Manhasset since there are hardly any sidewalks. Do people even walk on the streets? Or do the residents just drive to a park instead of walking around their neighborhood?

Most places on Long Island aren't designed for walking
Usually it's areas where there is a downtown, like in Port Washington (great commute but no Manhasset schools...)
No, doesn't seem like people in Manhasset are the "walking the neighborhood" neighborly types of neighbors! Now, if you want to meet up at the "club" you'd have more success, but...
Hubby used to teach there. There are nice people, there are those who don't hob-nob with the middle class. Even the kids can be cutthroat with each other - seems to be a theme in wealthy districts.
If you want a truly nice neighborhood with neighborly neighbors, I'd go to a less ritzy area. Save your money for your kid's college funds!

While all or part of the Village of Munsey Park and the Village of Flower Hill have a "Manhasset, NY 11030" mailing address and are in the Manhasset Union Free School District, they are not part of Manhasset, which is a hamlet, because, in New York State, villages can not be part of hamlets and vice versa.

People in Munsey Park do walk around even though there are no sidewalks. Since Munsey Park doesn't have a lot of traffic, most pedestrians walk on the side of the street without a problem.
A lot of north shore areas don't have sidewalks....I grew up in Huntington - no sidewalks in the residential areas. Of course in those days people weren't talking on the phone and texting while driving so walking to my friends' houses I wasn't really taking my life in my hands.
If you want a comparable area with sidewalks try Garden City.
