How much are fulltime daycares? Are the prices negotiable?

When I worked for tutortime 15 years ago it was $200.00 a week. It also depends on the age of your child because the the weekly price may vary. I am not really sure what the going rate is today. Have you looked around? How old is your child. plus I think there are extra fees if you drop off your kid before 8 am (breakfast program) and if you pick up your kid after 6pm. Tutortime used to charge a 10.00 late fee to parents who picked their kid up after 6pm and they did not pay for extra time to begin with. 5-10 minutes late they would not charge but 15 min or more yes they would. A in home day care might be a better option when it comes to price, check out both in home and daycare centers and compare.

We sent our kids to a place in Huntington that was $1240 for infant per month, 5 days a week 6 am - 6 pm, toddler was $1200 and they gave a 10% sibling discount.
The new place in northport we go to is just under $2000 for both kids with one 10% discount, for an 18 mo old and 3 yr old, for extended hours between 7.30 to 4.30 ( an extra hour over standard hours of 8-4)

hope that helps.

Thanks for that info. I have one currently in daycare and it's about 1300 per month available from 7a-6p. I asked them about having a second child enrolled in it, and basically it comes out to about 2400 per month for a toddler and an infant even after the sibling discount. I just don't understand why anyone would go to daycare when a nanny would probably be cheaper at that rate? Am I missing something?

Well with daycare your child get exposed to other children his/her own age. With a nanny unless the child is enrolled in mommy and me or plays with other kids in the park they really have no exposure to other kids. Nanny pay can vary from $300-$500 a week depending on what is required of the nanny and live ins I believe make more than those who live out.

Fulltime daycare in one of the franchise centers is 200-300 per kid per week, and you also have to pay even if the kid is out for a week to "hold your place".

There are people running places out of their house for less than that if you can get into one...and you trust the person.

i do the kind out of someone's house - been using her for years. She's $5/hour cash. I can drop her off whenever with no determined schedule. Obviously I trust her with my child. If not for that find, I probably wouldn't have my wife work since daycare is so expensive.

There are pros and cons to each, though we went with daycare for the socialization aspect. Also, if your nanny gets sick, then you have to take off work, where the daycare center has multiple 'teachers' for each 'class'. If we went with a nanny or au pair we would have wanted the kids to participate in part-time nursery school or at least mommy and me type activities, maybe the library which is free at least. If you go au pair they must live with you, again pros and cons, but also they would need a car to take kids out to activities, unless you want them home all the time or are in a walkable area. With nanny they would also be driving your kids around, in their car, you probably have to provide car seat, gas, etc , just something else to think about. In the end we wanted privacy at home (no au pair), socialization and not have to think about someone else carting our kids around, so the day care works for us, Though in the morning I do wish we had some help getting everyone ready, it can be hellish sometimes, for instance this morning!

Also remember that if your kids are with a bunch of other kids in day care, they are going to get sick all the time. Pink eye, colds, stomach virus, ad infinitum.

People have told me this will pay off in elementary school because they will have a stronger immunity than other kids in their class, but let's see if that holds true. I sure hope it does. I haven't taken a sick day because of me myself being sick in 5 years.

Isn't a nanny and an Au Pair the same thing?
