This was a good suggestion qj:

How long would that take for the OP? right around 2 hours on the nose if I'm right? This may be your best route OP.
Q3 buses are so frequent you have a very high chance of meeting one as soon as you leave the train plus the bus has baggage racks eliminating the luggage problem.

Ohh by the way if you time it with an express train I mean LIRR express trains then you will shave off over 40 mins of travel time.

Well, thanks to everyone who posted. Looks like a commute year from hell. Maybe I will try the LIRR. I used to commute to the city that way, but I really do like SOME alone time in the car. Wyoming girl never gets used to being packed in like a sardine...We like our space... I just didn't picture it being 3 hours of hair-pulling, head banging, three inches between you and the next car sort of alone time. Should have known better. Thanks everybody!

you must be special...I did it every day and some days it took a half hour to go 3 exits. you must have been going at 4am. I always went with the grand central, the SS to the Belt was completely unpredictable and almost always slow on and off all the way. Also, with construction, Erskine St almost all the way to the Verrazano is now 40mph speed limit.

Stop being such an instigator. No one cares. I have gone both ways. The ONLY time I made Cropsey to 135 in 35 minutes was the night my future wife's dog was dying and I drove 90mph the whole way at 8:30pm. The only time I made 135 to Knapp St. in 35mins was to catch a fishing boat at Sheepshead Bay at 4:30am (also driving like a bat outta hell). Never came close to that during a regular commute. No rational person who commutes even pays any mind to your "'pequa to Bensonhurst in 35min fantasy." It's just silly. I'm glad you believe it. Enjoy your commute. You are truly special...(like ride the short bus "special").

That said, I'd still drive. The LIRR and subway are THAT awful. Gimme my driver's seat, coffee and satellite radio anyday over those cattle cars.
