We are looking for apartments for rent and in the search found out about the Mid Island apartments in Bay Shore. The management seems to be friendly and nice over the phone. Also the prices seem to be reasonable. I was checking for online reviews and heard really bad things about it (dated 2008). Any first hand reviews about the apartments and the area would be appreciated.

Do you know anything about the area? What were you looking to spend on rent if you don't mind me asking?

I must start by saying that I lived there for two years. The staff was very nice and helpful. Maintenence was very good and fast getting there. The thing I did not like about Mid Island apartments was the very very unfair rent increases, and the ISTA payments, which were supposed to be for water and sewer. I have never been charges this any otheer place, and it started off at about 9 dollars a month and when I left over 20 dollars. The rent increases were crazy!!! I was charged 960.00 in the beginning for a studio apt. I felt this was fair. but after the first year they banged me 60.00 from 960.00 to 1020.00. The second year they wanted another 75.00 increase, so I said good bye. They have tons and tons of apartments, so you would think they would want to keep good tennents when they have them.............NOT!!! I said good bye and good riddence .

It is owned by Home Properties, i live in a different home properties location and i agree ISTA is sort of ridiculous .......

They do increase rent but so do all the places- our rent went up 30$ for the 14 month lease -that is acceptable.

Default home properties

Malishka, which one do you live in? I would have stayed if the rent increase was only $30. $60 the first year and then they wanted $75 the 2nd year......RIP OFF

i live in Bayview. First year was 25$, this year i think 30, we pay basically 5$ less than the current asking price with our 2 cats, which adds an extra 50.

I cant complain about bayview, it is a pretty good little complex, but it probably helps things that i live next door to one of the maint people and am very close friends with his wife and we both have kids born basically same week.

We will be moving next year though because we need a bigger place and a we would like a better school district. Still havent figured out where we will move to, it is all so confusing with the 1million districts and 5000000 villaga/hamlet/neighborhood/town crap.
