I know from Bethpage it's 45 minutes to Penn then you need to take the subway downtown so say about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 depending on if you get right on the subway when you get to Penn or miss it and have to wait. Whatever most of the people on here tell you, subtract 15-30 minutes and that is the accurate amount of time. Hope that helps!

Sure, you can make it in an hour if you live in the LIRR station and work in the Wall St. subway station, but for most people, the times you cite just aren't realistic in my opinion. I used to commute from Plainview (which may be a few minutes further than Jericho, granted) and my commute looked like:
- 10 minute drive to Hicksville
- 5-10 minutes to park and get to the train. In Hicksville, unless you're going super early, you're going to be parking further away and walking a bit.
- 45 minutes on the train
- 5-10 minutes to walk to and wait for the subway.
- 15-20 minutes on the subway, assuming no delays
- 5 minutes to walk to office (depending upon where that is, of course)
That's actually more like an hour and 40 minutes, but again, Jericho might be a bit closer. Yes, there may be days when you don't have to wait for the subway or you get a great parking spot and you save a few minutes here or there. But if you need to be at work at a certain time and are planning the commute accordingly, these numbers are totally reasonable estimates.
I do agree with Walter about the Brooklyn train. I didn't get to take it very often, but it was indeed a bit quicker.
