About 90 minutes one way via LIRR and 2/3 to Wall Street.

If you can catch the Flatbush express out of Hicksville, it's about 1-1/4 hours.

Please don't listen to most of what the people on here say...they tell me it takes over an hour to get to the Queens border when I consistently make it in 45 minutes from 40 miles away. And that's only averaging about 55 MPH. That's driving though. By train is like 50 minutes but people will tell me it's 1 hour 15. I know from Bethpage it's 45 minutes to Penn then you need to take the subway downtown so say about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 depending on if you get right on the subway when you get to Penn or miss it and have to wait. Whatever most of the people on here tell you, subtract 15-30 minutes and that is the accurate amount of time. Hope that helps!

Sure, you can make it in an hour if you live in the LIRR station and work in the Wall St. subway station, but for most people, the times you cite just aren't realistic in my opinion. I used to commute from Plainview (which may be a few minutes further than Jericho, granted) and my commute looked like:

- 10 minute drive to Hicksville
- 5-10 minutes to park and get to the train. In Hicksville, unless you're going super early, you're going to be parking further away and walking a bit.
- 45 minutes on the train
- 5-10 minutes to walk to and wait for the subway.
- 15-20 minutes on the subway, assuming no delays
- 5 minutes to walk to office (depending upon where that is, of course)

That's actually more like an hour and 40 minutes, but again, Jericho might be a bit closer. Yes, there may be days when you don't have to wait for the subway or you get a great parking spot and you save a few minutes here or there. But if you need to be at work at a certain time and are planning the commute accordingly, these numbers are totally reasonable estimates.

I do agree with Walter about the Brooklyn train. I didn't get to take it very often, but it was indeed a bit quicker.

Atlantic Terminal is the way to go if you travel to Wall Street. Its about 10 minutes by subway and far less crowded than Penn.

It's amazing how many people still travel to Penn from Wall when they can use a train out of Atlantic Term. I chalk it up to white Long Islanders afraid of all those black Brooklynites.

To err on the safe side I would go in a different direction.... add 15 minutes to get the accurate time. Most people here estimating times have never done the commute.

What babadi said above = reasonable and realistic.

LIRR is a joke.... its the slowest express train I have ever travelled on.... but there is not much you can do.... sigh !!

I don't know if its that (there are just as many blacks on the 2/3 downtown to Wall from Penn) but I know many of the Wall Streeters have caught onto the Atlantic Terminal secret. There is a 6:56 express to Atlantic from Hicksville which arrives at 7:36, add 15min for the subway to Wall St and you can be in your office before 8am. Talk about express!

According to Atlantic Ave.-Pacific St. Station To Be Co-named ‘Barclays Terminal’ (http://www.brooklyneagle.com/categories/category.php?category_id=26&id=48263 - broken link), Atlantic Terminal may soon be co-named Barclays Terminal.
