My son got a $150 ticket for an expired inspection. He's away at school, but he's under the impression that if I go to court tomorrow to pay it and the ticketing cop isn't there that they'll reduce the fine. Anyone know if this is true? Thanks for any advice.

If you go to court and show that you've rectified the situation in a timely manner, the judge will likely lower the fine. If you still haven't renewed the 'rege, they won't.

Oh, we took care of it, pronto. Do I bring the receipt for the inspection?
Thanks.

Yes, show proof that you had it resolved. If the inspection just lapsed you will have some wiggle room. If it has been 6 months you might have a hard time.

Happen to me. It laps by a few weeks. Got the inspection done, and the judge threw the ticket out. good luck.

yup. the judge will usually throw it out if you bring proof that you got the inspection and if you tell him that your son was away in college and usually doesnt use the car, its better for you.

Dang! Two years ago I got a ticket for an expired inspection sticker on the day afer it expired! I took the car in the very next day and got a new sticker, but I just paid the ticket like a good little zombie instead of going before a judge. I just figured I got caught and that was that. If it ever happens again, I'll know better from the responses on here.

If you get a ticket in Nassau or Suffolk, go to court every time. You can plea down most offenses.

If you get a ticket in NYC, don't bother, the "judges" are guys who work for the police department and rubber stamp every ticket with "guilty". NYC traffic cops are judge, jury, and executioner, for all intents and purposes. Unless you can find a glaring error in their paperwork (they put the wrong license plate number, etc)
