A map of the Hamlet of Centereach in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County
A map of the Hamlet of Centereach in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County:
The Hamlet of Centereach has a different border than does the "Centereach, NY 11720" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Centereach, NY 11720" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Centereach and a place can have other than a "Centereach, NY 11720" mailing address and be in the Hamlet of Centereach): places that have a "Centereach, NY 11720" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Centereach are in the Hamlet of Farmingville and the Hamlet of Selden; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Centereach with a "Selden, NY 11784" mailing address.
Lived here all my life. I love it. I am planing on getting my own house soon and would love to stay here. I live south of Middle Country Rd, just west of Nicolls Rd. There are (just like mostly any other town) good area's, better areas, and not so good areas (but still not horrible).
Centereach has to be one of the ugliest, "Turnpike Towns" on LI. Strip Malls, mediocre schools, nail salons, tattoo shops - get the picture?
Not a good place.
Best of luck.
I agree about how MCR looks...its horrible. I have to disagree about Centereach being "not a good place". For the $?? You cant go wrong. I lived there for 3yrs....loved it. No problems, neighbors were great, just a blue collar average place.
It's probably the official "middle" of Long Island in many aspects...demographically and geographically.
There are streets I've driven through recently that I liked, but overall, the schools are low performing, and I hate 25/Jericho/Middle Country Road, especially between 83 and where it crosses 25 just past the mall. It is a horror show...that's about 6 miles of everything that went wrong with suburbia, and it's dangerous to drive also.
But you can get a decent house for not too much money, and there are no drive bys or anything like that going on. I'd try to bump up a bit to Sachem or Connetquot SD if I were looking in the same area and price range.
