Does anyone know why there are so many vollie fire chief extra large SUV's in Manhattan during the week? If there's a call in the community that owns (and pays for gas, insurance, maintenance etc) that mega SUV does the Volli chief leave his day job and race to LI?

I'm guessing the Dept on your post didn't give you a FOB so you could have a meal in peace at the members lounge. Consider that there are many in the PD that wear two hats as well.

There's a lot of problems with the systems but you're complaining about things that have no bearing on what the real issues are. They have to have some of those things or they'd never attract volunteers. If they do get hurt they deserve workers comp too. I still think though that we should go to a paid system though.

When your house is on fire who comes at 2 am the vfd when you get into a car accident and trap who comes out to save u vfd and ems. And u want a pay person do u have any idea how much your taxes would go up. U people think that a vfd should put there lifes on the line without getting something in return . If u do than u need to get your head check. Maybe u should try being a volunteer and see what its like before judgeing fireman or ems.

You is only 3 letters and looks better than "U".

Volunteering
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity and is intended to promote good or improve human quality of life. In return, this activity can produce a feeling of self-worth and respect. There is no financial gain involved.

So according to you volunteers are doing it with an expectation of something in return...

Out in the real world many communities have "paid" fire departments, perhaps it's time.

I hope our VFD have better luck in putting out fires than our schools do teaching how to read and write the English language
