Really?, what will happen if NYC was to say they would implement a commuter tax for those who work but live outside of the cities boundaries. Bet that will go over well with the LI folks who depend on NYC jobs to pay their taxes and put food on the table.

Ha! LI is subsidizing NYC, or rather the folks in NYC are subsidizing the rest of NYS?
Da money is here in NYC, not in the burbs or LI or upstate.

But again, it's a pipedream for any region to break away from any state in the union....it takes a major actor of congress and as we've seen they aren't exactly the most "get it done" type of crowd.
Is this a joke? Because downstate NY, ESPECIALLY Long Island, pays more state taxes than it gets back in services ... which benefit threadbare upstate NY.

Why should Long Island have to fund the rest of the state and act as their cash cow? Why should we have to fund welfare for say Rochester?

There are many US jurisdictions that receive taxes and those that pay to support districts that are less affluent, would you rather promote greater disparities in infrastructure, schools, standard of living.

By the way anyone that is willing to divorce themselves from NYC is really out there. They are the wealthiest city in the world.
