i just received a jury duty summons, date being a day after i am supposed to go overseas with my kids. i have the email tickets for all three of us. this is the first time i have been asked for jury duty and was wondering which is the best way to get a postponement. the letter says i can do it over the phone or mail (send in part A, new preferred date for jury duty, documentations for postponement etc). have any of you ever gotten a postponement and if so how did you do it? should i call or mail part of this letter, along with an email printout of tickets and a letter with new dates. please help
DH had this happen last year. His report date was a couple of days after he was to leave. We mailed in the portion of the summons along with proof he would be away. Mailed it return receipt requested so he would have proof of responding.
He was called for jury duty 6 months later. One day at Riverhead.
I missed jury duty completely once...just completely forgot about it. It was no big deal - you can actually blow it off and they'll just send you another summons. Don't try that more than once though!!!
i once postponed via mail the other time i postponed thru the phone. if i'm not mistaken i don't think they ask for documentation the first time you postpone(but I was in NY City not sure where you are). after the first postponement if you have to postpone again you have to go in person with documentation

I'm in Suffolk, and yes, the first postponement is "easy". However, getting a second one is almost impossible now--you generally have to go in person and need a very very good reason why they should grant another postponement.

I loved Jury Duty. It was so much fun & I learned a lot .
I would not want to be on a case like the Sandusky one, though. I just would not be able to listen to that.
