I have never seen a cop smoking while on duty here on Long Island. I have however seen cops smoking during what appeared to be a break, or either right before or right after coming off duty outside of a police station in a small sized city in Virginia while I was on vacation seeing a cousin graduate from college. I was shocked, I couldent believe that in 2005 LEOs would be smoking while in uniform.

Just as long as they protect us, I couldn't care less if they smoke.

Actually in Toronto I "think" I may have seen one cop smoking while parked in a back lot..but to tell you the truth...I have never really seen a cop in Toronto light up..and if they did in an out of the way private place- so what- It is a legal substance still - is it not?

In my first band we had a bass player and he was a chronic pot head...who also liked to do LSD on occasion.. Lost track of the guy and years later I found out he was a provincial cop...I head that not much had changed with the guy- Now if he busts some kid for dope...He keeps it...I would worry more about that kind of cop than the nicotine addict.

Default I have.

Only a few times. The bad part about this is smoking slows a person down over time, So it could and likely would hamper the officer's need endurance if they had the habit long term.

If you are referring to Cookie, wish her well. Her kind will never be seen again.

Sorry OP, didn't mean to highjack or change the subject. Back to smoking!

Sorry, sunshine, but police officers are specifically exempted from the cell phone law while in performance of official duties. Section 1225c, sub 3 of the NYS VTL. Look it up.

Does that include talking to wives, girlfriends, etc? I highly doubt any "official police work" is done over a cell phone.

Before I retired, I would say 90% of my police work were done over the cellphone. Do you realize how many people have or listen to scanners out there especially the real bad guys.

Doubt all you want. You obviously don't have a clue what cops do and how they do it.
