My generation was pretty much the last hurrah. In WHHS there was Alpha Sigma Phi, Omega Gamma Delta, Sports Club, Zeta and the Knights. My brother was in Phi and had quite the high school career. We also had the Hit Squad which was just an informal group of potheads. My junior year colors were banned at WHHS.
When I was in high school in Lynbrook in the early 70's we had Delta and Omega. My friend's father was a member of Omega back in the 50's so we happened to know their "secret password". I made the mistake of shouting it out at a party when there were a lot of Omega's present. Long story short, my two friends and I ended up locking ourselves in a bedroom out of fear for our lives. From there, we called a friend's father who was on the Lynbrook police force. A couple of squad cars came and escorted us to safety! Ah, the good old days.
Some kid got seriously injured during a hazing and that put an end to wearing your colors to school.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Frate...14&ref=profile The Baldwin Burger King Brawl was the finale for many; all because of some homie named Billy Sandoval who apparently beat the living S**t and then some out of some teen member of Baldwin Omegas, literally fracturing the homie's skull so bad that blood and brain fluid leaked all over the bloody parking lot. Fred Gross-a member of Oceanside Alpha Omega Theta goes into detail in his book-Fraternal Brotherhood. I've read it twice last year.
Freeport, Omega Gamma Delta, Delta Gamma Rho, still around in the early eighties. Alpha Sigma Phi disbanded in the late 70's. Every frat had a paddle!
