Bayville resident here. No, W. Shore Rd. is totally closed from Oyster Bay to Bayville unless you live on it. I also heard there was significant damage to the hydraulics of the Bayville draw bridge. Best route is over Mill Hill to Oyster Bay Rd., bang a right on the other Oyster Bay Rd., a right at Barney's Corner on Bayville Rd, at end make a right on other Bayville Rd which will bring you into Bayville at the Stands.
thanks. winter should be fun on Mill Hill Road by the West Main/Lake Ave intersection
Years ago, I commuted from Bayville - from January till June. Decided living in Bayville and commuting to NYC was not a good mix! Especially during the Winter months
If the rental is on the west end of town, your commute wouldn't be THAT bad. You could always shoot out through Glen Cove and take the electric train line out of Hicksville (about a 25 min drive and 50 min train ride into Penn Sta.)
I would be really surprised if the OP could make it from Bayville to Hicksville in 25 minutes during morning rush hour. If he can handle the limited schedule and the change at Jamaica, he might just be better off taking the train from Locust Valley.

Yeah, you're probably right. Rt. 107 is a nightmare during rush hour. Another option would be driving to Manhasset, about a 35-40 minute drive, and then taking the express into Penn in about 25 minutes.
