What do we all think about this new law? Why does it take over 1 year to obtain a Nassau pistol permit when the law states processing should be completed in a reasonable timeframe of 6 months?

because they are claiming budget cuts reduced their capacity to process. there are some lawsuits already against them.

Because the more litigious, slow and complicated it is, the less likely you will be to pursue one.

Touchy subject as what we all think about the new law, but to comment on your query as to why it takes so long; Nassau County will say it is becasue of reduced budget as others have said. Most people think however it's due to the discouragement effect. With all the time and effort in obtaining personal references and such you may eventually decide not to pursue it.

Red herring, gentlemen. The new gun law has nothing to do with handgun permits (except requiring a 5 yr renewal, which is the current practice in Nassau.) Except for the change in magazine capacity, the majority of this new law is aimed at "assault" rifles, not handguns. The handgun permitting process in the downstate area is already among the strictest in the country. No additional legislation was needed.

Default New Gun Control law

Don't sweat it boys & girls. Most of us with these "big bad weapons" have no intention of complying with the new law. That means we will not register or sell or alow any state or federal fool to take them away. They were purchased legally. They were owned responsibly and weather anyone likes it or not it is our Consitutional right to keep them. They are not for hunting deer and our imbecile Governor knows that. But he was all hot to run for President in 2016 and Senator Dean (Smiling jack) Skelos was willing to help him. These rifles are our right under the 2nd amendment so as to defend ourselves, our neighbors and our country from enemies Foreign and Domestic. (If you don't know what those words mean try using a dictionary) So now that all you good Long Island liberals are starting to get wet all over, look around you. You will never know just how many of your good neighbors have these weapons and will never give them up. Frankly neighbors you've known most of your life probebly have them. They don't parade them, they don't make threats-they just go about their lives minding their own business. At least until April 14, 2014 when or if this law goes into effect. Then....."It's going to be a hot time in the old town tonight!"

The new law will increase the value of all guns, the return might be better than money in a saving account.
