He asked to stain his side. I've heard all different opinions on this from friends and family members, and I'm just curious as to whether others have had experiences with this type of situation. We're pretty easy going but I guess I'm worried about it dripping through and looking bad on our side. In the end to keep the peace we'll probably just let him do it, but I'd like to hear some viewpoints. Thanks

Oh, we paid for the fence, they never offered to go in for half.
You may as well just go ahead and let him do whatever he wants to YOUR PROPERTY then. Ask him what color YOUR HOME should be so you can "keep the peace" and please HIS taste.

Personally I would tell him NO, it is not his fence and not his choice, his property or his right to stain "his" side. It technically is NOT HIS, it is YOURS with a side that happens to be seen from his yard.

Yes, and make sure that you yell at him in all the places above where there are capital letters. That should cement the relationship and ensure that the stain will become the least of your neighbor problems.

its no big deal if he stains his side, just like if your bushes or trees wer growing over his property. the only thing you should worry about is if he stains the fence, it will leak to your side and make your fence look bad, there will be drips from his staining onto your side.
