Previously known as Norwood and then Malvern (without the 'e'), Malverne is a village (incorporated in 1921) in the west-central part of the Town of Hempstead, in the southwest part of Nassau County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise, the Village of Malverne in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Franklin Square and the Hamlet of Malverne-Oaks; on the east by the Hamlet of Lakeview; on the south by the Village of Lynbrook and the Hamlet of North Lynbrook; and, on the west by the Village of Valley Stream and the Hamlet of North Valley Stream.
The Village of Malverne has a different border than does the "Malverne, NY 11565" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a Malverne mailing address and not be in Malverne): places that have a "Malverne, NY 11565" mailing address but are not in the Village of Malverne are in the Hamlet of Malverne-Oaks.

Does anyone remember Ickle Bickle's Pub, in Malverne, next the tracks?
This was a favorite hang out for my friends and I, around 1976. Fuzzy was the owner, he unfortunately passed away a few years later. Most of my friends were alumnus of West Hempstead HS. It was also a restaurant, that served excellent food, great steaks. I spent my 23rd B-Day there , and the rule was, if you didnt show up on your B-Day, dont show up again. Fuzzy and the bartender, I think his name was Eddie, and others bought me 33 Kamikazes, 2 beers, and 2 scotch and sodas. I downed this stupid mixture within an hour and a half. Took three days to get over it. I have not been able to drink a kamikaze since.

When did it close and what is it now? I worked in the area in the 80's and thought it was a great place.
It's been closed for years. It's an Irish pub/restaurant called Connelly Station now. Get's pretty crowded since it's the only place in town.
