Beyond tax implicatins (which we were all aware of when we moved here or are staying here) why is this a debate? No one is stopping anyone from the teacher/cop profession if it such a great gig.
Well actually the ones who won't retire until the crypt kicker comes calling because they know if they do they will have to take their pension and move due to the cost of living here are keeping everyone else from the jobs. Long, long wait list of perfectly qualified candidates but no room in budgets to hire...or fix, or build, or buy uniforms, or instruments or add programs, or buy books or ipads (without Fed grants) or take trips, etc, etc, ad nauseum because all the $ goes to mandated raises and pension obligations for the union lottery winners. No need for debate though. We're all just jealous. It that's all you can grasp, oh well. No point in debating at all, is there?
I'm sure everyone was "well aware" of their school taxes going up 10% in a year their home value dropped $50k. Sure!

ooh are you going to get it for this. These posters don't like brutal honesty. Mongoose is one who still drives around with a George McGovern for President bumpersticker on his Wankel powered AMC Pacer.

....and we circle back around to this when there's nothing more factual to talk about.

That is one way to look at it. The problem is there are 10s of thousands that would love the jobs but, they aren't able to get it due to the high demand and lack of connection. Why should the LI teacher and cop get paid substantially more than the NYC teacher and cop?

Do you have a clue as to what the principal custodian at a 100acre college gets paid in NYC? Substantially less than a head custodian that handles one building on LI. Why?

"should" is meanigless in the real world. There are just facts. If your desire is to work as a teacher/cop on LI and you don't get it, you may need to re-evaluate if teaching in NYC/Patroling at lower pay is the right move for you. If it is, don't complain. We all have/had dreams. I wanted to be a professional athlete, I didn't make it.

Professional athletes get paid by private individuals. Not even close to the same thing.

That was not the point. For you, stop reading at "dreams". and forget the last sentence. It should be more clear for you.
