Anyone familiar with the Frederick area in Maryland? We are a young married couple born and raised on LI (Port Jeff Station and Northport). We are looking to move in about a year to buy our first home. We have visited Frederick and love what we have seen but were hoping to get some input from other LI transplants who have actually lived around the area. Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks!

You'd probably have better luck posting this on the Maryland board, since you want to talk to people who currently live there.

I lived in Maryland (Baltimore County) for a few years and visited Frederick a few times as a couple of my coworkers were from that area. My impression of the area was that it was well kept but very rural. The commute to and from Baltimore is about 1.5 hours and probably about the same or longer to D.C., so that may be tough if you plan on working in either cities. There's also not much around it; the closest hub is probably in Gaithersburg and it felt isolated. And though you can't judge a community by two residents, the two coworkers I had from the area were very polite and smart, though not very, err, culturally oriented?

It is a nice area, and if it suits your needs it would certainly be an area worth pursuing. However, there are a lot of great, affordable areas in Maryland that you may want to add to your list, some north of Baltimore and some closer to D.C.

Good luck on your move!
