As someone who has lived and worked in most of the long island towns, I can give a little better insight. Sachem has been going down hill for years and is nowhere near where it was in the 80's, Connetquot as well. Most of the long island district have kind of met in the middle. This also includes the Middle Country District which is average and certainly not a bad one. If she substitutes commute, then her cost of living goes up. Considering the cost of living for Selden, she can provide a little better for her child, have a school of a similar quality to the 2 you mentioned, and have better businesses than those provided in the Ronkonkoma, Lake Grove, and Lake Ronkonkoma, Farmingville, and Medford (border) areas.

If she wants better schools, Three Village has always been much better than Sachem and Connetquot.

I thought you lived all over LI ?? Medford doesn't come anywhere near our border. Anyway, I do agree that sachem and CT have declined but i didn't want to start naming every district. Middle Country is nowhere near Connetquot or Sachem. Centereach HS as well as Newfield are rated a 6 out of 10 as per great schools.org and the percentages of free lunch which shows the dynamics of the area are over 20%. If you will only be here for 2 yrs do your research and pick a home to rent close by the better performing schools, holbrook rd school is a possibility, there is always private school also, either way good luck..

greatschools.org is a formula that ranks the schools and is not the true reality of each district. Figure in special needs programs or lack of them and the numbers change alot.
By the way, just so you know, Sachem has one of their high schools on granny road in Farmingville between 112 and 83. If you go slightly up the road, you come to Blue Ridge condos which are also before 112 and that is the start of Medford. So yes, Medford DOES come near the border. Back to the story. In the 80's Sachem was an elite, now they are not. They are still a good school but quite a bit more average.
Like I said prior, Three Village is STILL an elite.
