I am sure there are people out there(especially myself) who feel that Nassau County is becoming too urban and basically like an extension of Queens. I've read some other forums about how some people who still like Long Island are moving out east to the forks, and some people are moving Upstate because they too hate Long Island but still like New York State, but others are just leaving New York period because they just can't stand living here anymore.

it wasn't so much the urbanization that pushed me out - it was mainly the property taxes!

I could justify the high cost of homes (low value for what you get!), but the property taxes are just insane. And every year, people approve more budget for schools on a declining enrollment. And crook politicians on the take giving into all public union demands, at the expense of the taxpayer of course.

Same here. I too didn't mind the low value for what you got, it was the taxes (although I would find it a bitter pill to swallow paying half a million in some of these towns...and don't even think about what you've paid over the life of the loan).

We just figured we should get out while we could still get someone to pay top dollar on a house with low, low taxes of $12K (now they are $15K)!

Completely agree. Nassau was basically filled by the 70s. The only changes now are increased density near the train stations, which is a good thing and will keep us from stagnating.

I don't know...

I grew up in the 80's... Nassau is a shell of what it was in the 80's and even the early 90's. The whole culture and vibe changed dramatically around Y2K.

And many people are staying right here in Nassau, living comfortably and loving it.

I'm not sure what the point of your post was. There will always be people who love a place and there will always people who don't.
