One occurred in North America, the other in South America. You're welcome.

In terms of process, it happened very fast in Brazil due to migration from northern regions to the southern ones due to industries and city services and commerce developing there. In few decades (mainly the 50's to 80's) the city's number of residents was multiplied by five or six and as we're a developing country, there have been not enough resources to back it up.

In terms of urban situation, cities are dense, dividided into city block like New York, SF or Chicago. In couple of city blocks you may find all kinds of shops, townhouses, apartment highrises and offices plus schools and hospitals.
There are mostly residential neighborhoods with tree lined streets, too like in Oregon.
Try viewing Google Street View for São Paulo ans Rio de Janeiro to get a sense of those.

There was a lot of migration of poor people from drought affected areas in the hinterlands of the Northeast to the major cities in the coast of the Northeast of Brazil, not only to the cities of the South and Southeast.

People often forget that. Not only Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte received lots of migrants from the drought affected areas, but also Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza, thus these cities also experienced explosive demographic growth in the second half of the XX century.

And when you talk about "urbanization", it includes the mid-sized cities and towns. Brazil has lots of cities and towns with populations ranging from 60 thousand to 300 thousand people dotting its territory. The country is much more than just Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and the other big cities.
