Malverne school's actually perform decently. The reason the schools have a reputation is SOLELY due to it's racial makeup. Nassau County has a long history of poor race relations and this is just a symptom of that. If you want more proof, look at the questionable reputations of other diverse school systems like Baldwin and Elmont's that actually perform perfectly fine.
Here's a thread that people put together to compare the performances of LI districts. And as you can see, even though Malverne is far from being a top school, it still performs better than a lot of well-regarded school systems like East Rockaway and Glen Cove.

If people don't like a school b/c of it's racial makeup, they should just admit that; and not try to demonize the schools/students.

OP, please listen to MemoryMaker and Lubby. For instance West Hempstead is only marginally better than Malverne schools (according to the list), but you'll never see a post on there putting down those schools.
I've always found it interesting that Malverne continues to remain a mostly White enclave despite having a majority Black student population in the public schools. I think the high taxes have kept most Blacks from moving into the area. Usually, a majority minority school district means lower home values, but this is not the case there.

Most would prefer Lakeview b/c not only do you have the same exact schools but you have a similar proximity to NYC, a suburban setting also and lower taxes as you mentioned. So why go through the extra trouble of moving to a place where you'll stand out just to get the same exact services? Usually the only time AA's would seek out a non-black area is if it's a sacrifice to get high-performing schools (in addition to being financially well-off).
I don't think the taxes are that huge of a deterrent. There are plenty of black homeowners in Nassau County who pay sky-high taxes and even pay village taxes on top of all that (the Villages of Westbury and Freeport coming to mind). Plus, the median household incomes of Malverne and Lakeview are actually pretty close, they are at $112k and $102k respectively according to the 2010 Census (both higher than the Nassau County avg).

Part of Lynbrook feeds into Malverne SD as well and their taxes are affordable and the home price are on the lower side for LI. If your kids are white they will be the minority in the district. Most white families that buy there sent their kids to private.

I think too many Blacks worry about not fitting in or standing out. This usually leads to self segregation which to me is even worse. They end up living in a "Ghetto" type environment. That mentality needs to change. I don't see Asians worrying about that. They move where ever fits their needs.

Blacks aren't the only ones who fear fitting in.
Look at all the people in Malverne putting their kids into private school. They likely do this so their kids can "fit in". Since Malverne schools are not failing by any means, performance can't be blamed for the high private school enrollment of Malverne students..
