I just closed on my house and found out shortly after that my real estate agent gave out some of my personal financial information to my father in law. My father in law is not associated with the with the deal in any way. The agent admitted to this and feels he did nothing wrong.
Is there anything I can do?

Complain to the broker in charge at the agent's office.

Does the agent know your FIL?

I agree, complain to the broker, and if it's a franchise, to the national office, and if they don't respond with how you expect, the Attorney General's office. If your FIL had no fiduciary link to the transaction he shouldn't have been privy to private information - it's no different than if they gave it to a neighbor or posted it on the internet.

Clearly unprofessional. Even if your FIL was involved in the transaction in some way, it is inappropriate to discuss your personal information with ANYONE without your express permission. It is written in the Standard of Practice 1-9 (#1) within the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the National Association of Realtors. When you call the agency, mention the Standards.....
