I agree with all you've said on this thread. I'm moving from PJ soon, and I'm going to miss taking this ferry to CT just to avoid driving off this darn island via NYC. I swear, I'd rather pay for the ferry and drive through CT than deal with Verrazano, SI, etc, etc.

This plan quickly died due to lack of funds and protesting among the usual tree hugging bunch.
Ain't gonna happen

Protests weren't from tree hungers. They were from the upper crust Gold Coasters who didn't want their towns accessed. Same idiots who are protesting wind turbines because they're not pretty.

I believe the final nail in the coffin for the Oyster Bay crossing was the creation of a wildlife refuge in the Centre Island area. There was opposition from the area across the Sound as well. (it was supposed to enter there by the I-95/I-287 junction in Rye).

Yes, I heard that, too. I should clarify myself: environmental BS was created in order to keep the peasants away--from both affluent sides. At least that's my opinion, anyway.

i don't think another bridge would solve that problem ... over three million people in Nassau/Suffolk counties. Think of the panic.
I'll take my chances with my canoe or kayak.

If they build new apartments then the existing apartments will become cheaper. Kids don't stay here after college because they get jobs elsewhere and don't want to commute an hour or two to work. We need jobs to increase demand. When demand is high, the ROI will increase and the apartments will get built. The older stock will become cheaper.

If the Whitestone collapses than we have bigger issues than the morning commute....

I agree the government is incapable of using eminent domain in a responsible manner..

thank you!

I haven't lived on LI for a few decades but kept thinking "wow, I had no idea they had closed 7 bridges and tunnels!"

Yeah, but the bridges are all in NYC. Long Island has the two ferries that run hourly but not 24 hrs. I'd love for there to be a bridge to take at ANY time of day. I've missed that 10pm ferry back home by 10 seconds and then had to drive all the way around just to come back to the same point.
