being new to an area, i guess people are more cautious. Before purchasing my home, i too avoided buying in a certain area because of proximity to "sketchy towns" but i wouldn't skip an entire town. I think I was bring too cautious because I was new to LI. But to be real, people from sketchy area usually stick to their area. They stick to what they are familiar with. I drove through Wyandach a few times because I was just curious of why people are so scared of the area. I drove through Hempstead too. The areas just seem underdeveloped. You can really tell the difference when compared to a neighboring town. In comparison, there are million dollar homes in Brooklyn and Manhattan across the street from public housing projects. Wyandach and Hempstead could be the same if investors/government would put more money into these towns.

Wyandanch and even Hempstead can never be like Brooklyn and Manhattan! They can improve for sure, but I doubt they will ever have enough appeal to be extremely expensive
