Does anybody know from personal or close experience if any school district in Long Island pays for dyslexia specific tests?
We know many offer speech therapy tests and general special Ed tests, but when you dig deeper it turns out dyslexia specific tests done by neuropsychologists are not often covered.

I wonder if anybody was able to get them covered.
Thanks

Some States have passed laws, and New York recently did as well. Here are some links with further information.
If this is your child would you not want to pay a few dollars and get the best?
This sounds like you are leaping to a conclusion. The OP is certainly not moving out of his/her school district over the cost of testing. It may well be that he/she was told the district does not cover it, given the cost of the tests so they know what they are responsible for and was asking just our of curiosity. They can run into the thousands of dollars you know.
You can request a full education evaluation for your child (include Occupational Therapy) as visual-motor integration can co-occur, state that you suspect a reading disability such as dyslexia. If you do not agree with their evaluation, you could request and independent educational evaluation at the district's expense. It will take ~3 mos for the school eval from start to meeting, then ~6-8 mos for the IEE. If your child does have dyslexia, they'll need a multi-sensory, science-based reading approach. Orton-Gillingham is the gold standard for dyslexia. Wilson, Fundations, Barton, have all been based off OG.
Yes, St. Charles Hospital : 200 Belle Terre Rd, Port Jefferson, NY 11777does testing for Dyslexia. I took my daughter there this past March 2019. Its a three day test session. Covered by my insurance. I only paid a co-pay for each visit.
They are one of the very few places and doctors that accept insurance. Every physician I spoke to only accepted cash payments. Almost $5000. I would have happily paid the $5000 but why pay and I'm already paying for my private insurance.
Good luck.
P.S. don't pay the negative comments any mind. Its a costly test and you should be looking for the most cost effective way to assist your child. Stay the course - You're doing the right thing.
By the way. Schools do not test for Dyslexia, most schools or I should say all school are not aware of the disorder or how to best address it academically or socially.
If your child has an average or above average IQ, has had adequate reading instruction and is not reading as well as his or her peers, then it’s probably dyslexia. Dyslexia is a language based disorder, so very often these children have needed speech therapy early on (so that’s a clue). Also, dyslexia runs in families (another clue).
Those with dyslexia can learn to read as well as non-dyslexics with the correct approach (the Orton Gillingham approach). Check out the reading program that you can do yourself, www.blastofftoreading.com.
