A senior relative may have to be transferred from one rehab to another, a distance of 20 miles. I am concerned about the comfort of the patient in an ambulette or whether I should request an ambulance. She is in a wheelchair with a severe leg fracture and a splint. I don't know whether the ambulance would use a wheelchair or some sort of gurney or bed. Any experience out there?

The ambulate should be able to handle that but isn't the rehab handling that for you? OR at least offering you some recommendations?

I believe the ambulette will transport the patient in the wheelchair. They secure the chair to the floor so that it doesn't move around. There is a ramp at the back door or sometimes a power lift. I would think that an ambulance would transport on a gurney and that might be more comfortable. Probably more expensive too.
