The Korean family who bought my Puerto Rican uncle's Bayside house completely removed every single tree and shrub. Then they divided the small colonial into apartments.

Ok, I change my statement. Its not just asians that hate trees, but its definitely a Queens thing.
My new non-asian neighbor who is moving from Queens currently is gut reno-ing the place. He told me me he plans on cutting down every single tree on the property. Not sure the town will let him, but dude does not want any trees falling on his house. My front yard pine tree just fell (not on my house fortunately).

I'm definitely not a tree hugging hippy or Green New Deal environmentalist type, but it really pains me when I see neighbors cutting down healthy trees. I can understand if they are diseased, dying or in danger of falling. However, we chose our block when house hunting just because of all the beautiful trees. In the past 8 years we've had a tree holocaust on my block. When one neighbor cuts their trees down, I noticed it becomes a thing and all the other neighbors start cutting their trees down too. My block looks like Queens now and that is why we left Queens.

My block was once shady and very pretty and had a New England appeal to it. Now it has become a concrete parking lot and in the summer our house gets much hotter because there is less shade. Almost every single neighbor on the block cut all their trees down in the front of their houses except for one great neighbor.

Then the other neighbors cut all the trees in their yards down too. Every summer it was a pleasure to sit in the yard because it was cool under the umbrella of these trees. Now it burns up my lawn and all my rose bushes all burnt up too because there is no more shade. My vegetables don't do nearly as well either. The other thing is now everyone has basically lost their privacy and I can see into everyone's yard. We asked a few of these neighbors why they cut the trees down and their answer was that they did not like all the leaves. Most of the trees were not diseased or dying, they were just a burden to them they told us.

It sucks and there is nothing I can do about it. My husband and I planted 3 trees in front of the house and 6 in the back yard to try to restore a little of what was lost. We don't mind the leaves and we enjoy the fall foliage. My husband mows the lawn himself and mulches all the leaves and we use them for fertilizer. My husband said most Long Islanders are lazy and don't want to be bothered mowing. He said exercise is good for people and that is why there are so many more fat people walking around, lol. It's my neighbor's houses and they can do what they want with their property, but it sucks.

As I am writing this, the new neighbors in back of us has a crew cutting down a beautiful tree we enjoyed for many years with a chain saw. This past summer when my other neighbor cut their trees down after they left, I found 4 bird's nests on the ground in my yard with baby birds in it. All the babies were dead. It made me sick to my stomach.

A lot of you might say "Well then pay their lawn crew to blow all the leaves if you don't like it", but they hire lawn crews to come anyway despite cutting their healthy trees down. Rant Over, lol.

I need to move...and you need to move...and we need to be neighbors.

I love nature, and was so sad when my neighbor cleared out literally 50 trees and other native plants.... hundreds of feet from their home...to just have more empty barren land, maybe for a future pool. People can do what they want...it's just sad when you buy in a neighborhood for hard to find natural beauty, and others decimate it.

Which is why I finally moved. Aside from all the usual LI complaints, the Covid refugees from the city all moved in and cleared out all the trees. Among other things. Oddly, this was the clincher.

Once again, a chinese family moved in and cut down an old tree.
This place is becoming a huge parking lot, slowly but steadily.

Don't you love people that "know better" than others, and because they feel a certain way, everyone must comform to their ideal. Time for another freedom restricting law!!

Nothing wrong with restricting freedom.
You'd be living in a place where everyone can throw trash to the street, drive 150 M/h, walk around naked...You get my point.

No. I don't get your point. Please elaborate

I am in an older, established subdivision in a small town in NW Georgia. We happen to have a nine acre heavily wooded lot. Yes, we deal with having to clean up after our trees and remove those that are dying. It is not fun when one falls across our long driveway. Most of the other homes are on smaller, but generous sized lots with mature trees.

There was a recent home sale in the neighborhood. I do not know the ethnicity of the buyers as I have not met them yet but soon after they got the house they cut down all the trees on the lot and removed all the shrubbery. None of the trees appeared unhealthy.

I certainly hope what they did does not become commonplace here.

If you do not want to deal with leaves and dropped limbs, why buy a house with trees?
