I have an option to move to Mastic, just a few streets up from the reservation, for a few weeks. The move would be ideal in my current situation.

This house is ideal since it's a house that I could live in for cheap for a bit. It's the area I was a bit concerned about.

I don't mind finding a safer place to rent short term if Mastic isn't that safe overall.

Any current residents can chime in?

Given your current situation if it is "ideal" and it is that temporary, what is there to talk about?

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my OP. Ideal in the sense that I wouldn't be paying much to live here. I'm on the fence since the I keep reading horror stories about Mastic and the area around the reservation. The house is a few streets away.

Mastic is a cesspool, but no one is going to kick in your door and murder you in the night. Just mind your business, don't cause any issues, lock your doors and lay low until it's time to move.

If it suits your situation it will be fine for a few weeks.

Hey, what happened to the member who was hawking Mastic Beach nonstop as a Hamptons alternative? There was obviously some prior investment involved. Forgot the member name.

Ha I was just thinking the same exact thing when I read this. Wonder if he ever bought his waterfront Hamptons or I mean Mastic Beach utopia or not?

Lol at comparing Mastic Beach and the Hamptons. God forbid the Mastics ever turned into another wannabe Hamptons filled with fake white progressives. Sorry I've been busy lately fishing fluke and striper. Clamming season about to start. The pandemic really changed all of our lives. For me I left the urban streetscapes behind to live like a bayman. Plus rocafeller05 had me banned.

To the OP, I love it here. As said above all I do is fish now. I either take my boat or my 4×4. It all depends where the bite is. People are friendly. Friendlier than what I am used to. No one has caused me any trouble on Neighborhood Rd. I don't go into the Reservation, but area around it seems fine to me. I go to Mastic Seafood weekly, which is great and not too far from the Reservation. The Mastics are considered one of the worst parts of Long Island, but then again we're talking Long Island. In general, as long as you do not conduct illegal activities, you should be fine.
