They think this is going to help “The Working Poor”? This will benefit the avg. working guy making 50k +/- who wants/needs any extra $100 per day/take home pay. Who they going to hire? A bunch of part timers, like above? Or, the Full Time “Working Poor”?
Flip burgers for $120 for an 8 hr shift on a Sat, not a bad gig!
You guys do realize that everything is headed to $15 in NYC metro areas including LI right? This was done before any type of Democratic stimulus funding or call for it. Actually NYC might already be $15, not sure if it was paused or not due to Covid.
Say goodbye to most small businesses. Sorry, no kid from high school with zero experience at anything is getting $15 for doing anything. They don’t deserve it. Most menial jobs do not deserve it. Does anyone believe that Jose or Billy deserve $15 /hr to sweep a floor? So, employers will let people go of just close down. Great job guys.

Those two posts sum it up, completely. And BTW, the minimum wage goes to $15/hr, and I might come out of retirement, for one day a week, just to pick up a little extra "pocket money".
The Federal minimum wage should have been adjusted yearly by the same % that SS uses. If that had been the case we would be at $14.21 today. The wage has been frozen for over 10 years. We are subsidizing small businesses at the expense of the working public. The poor just get poorer.
Keep falling for it, proles. Next time you are at a store waiting 45 minutes for granny to scan her own groceries, thank the minimum wage advocates. Also know that automation raises shoplifting rates (cheaper to absorb the shoplifting than to pay Johnny $15 an hour to man the register) further degrading society.

Yes, celebrate big business! They always have our best interests at heart...
All the angry green eyed demons mad someone gets $17/hr so come up with convoluted falsehoods to fight it. FACT: Adjusted for inflation the minimum wage should be about $24/hr. The difference is all that money went to the 1% while being looted straight out of GDP by policies from both parties over the last 40 years. The wealth trickled up, not down and the poor and middle got hosed. But who's counting. Go ahead, s*rew over your neighbor, but support the hand that fleeces you. Classic.
Feds should stay out of it.
Minimum wage should be dictated by states. And even then, by region.
$15 an hour is peanuts in Nassau, but a fortune in some upstate counties.
Interestingly enough, I live in an area that has a lot of restaurants and the restaurant workers have contacted the various legislators in huge numbers and said "please no" to the increase.
Really? Cite your source, because that seems super anecdotal and contrary to what I've been reading in forums and social media threads.

Cash tips disappeared when credit and debit cards became pervasive. The idea that people are throwing paper currency on the table on the way out is absurd. And tips should be eliminated, they're a relic of the past once used as signaling for the wealthy. Imagine a world where a professional server is compensated fairly for their services and don't need to perform stupid human tricks to earn an extra $5.

Your grasp of economics is stunning. Or, rather, your lack of a grasp on economics is stunning. You're assuming that the current minimum wage is fair and makes sense, which it doesn't. Where in the marketplace have prices remained stagnant for more than a decade (trick question, they haven't)?
The only thing more stunning than your lack of understanding about economics is your degree of prejudice; "Jose"? Really?

Someone who hasn't gotten a raise in more than a decade, that's who. Are stores and restaurants charging the same prices for their goods and services for more than a decade?

I shop at Target all the time where they've been paying their staff $15 for quite a while already. And guess what, the lines move faster there than in any grocery store I use where the minimum wage still prevails. People who are paid a farer wage tend to be happier, and happier people perform better in their jobs.
