The driver of a Mercedes Benz SUV was critically injured, and a Nassau County medic in an ambulance with its emergency lights flashing and siren blaring was also hurt, in a three-vehicle crash in Carle Place on Friday afternoon, police said.
The collision occurred around 1:50 p.m. when the ambulance, headed east on Old Country Road, crashed into the Mercedes, which had been going west on Old Country Road. The Mercedes was turning left onto Zeckendorf Boulevard when the crash occurred, according to Nassau police.
The third motorist, a 56-year-old woman who had stopped her Land Rover on Zeckendorf Boulevard, was uninjured, police said.
The medic, who was responding to an emergency, was listed in stable condition at a local hospital, police said.
The Mercedes driver, a 33-year-old man, was also hospitalized, police said.
Homicide detectives are probing the collision, the police said.
You really have a reading comprehension problem. The Land Rover (blue vehicle in foreground) driver was UNINJURED. The Mercedes SUV (black vehicle in the background) was taken to the hospital. I can see the airbags deployed in the MB.
What you can see in the picture is irrelevant by the way. The pic is no way indicative of what the damage is when the cars are separated. Based on the damage to the ambulance and the MB I'm sure the LR has driver side damage.
The woman in the Land Rover could've freaked/panicked and just slowed to a crawl up to the ambulance which had already impacted the MB. For all we know... of course.

The accident occurred on Old Country Rd and after the impact the cars were pushed into the woman who had been stopped at the traffic light. "Innocent third party".
“an ambulance with its emergency lights flashing and siren blaring”
Still, the ambulance can’t go through lights, if that’s what happened, when it’s unsafe to do so or drive at an unsafe speed. If a driver doesn’t see or hear the vehicle or just doesn’t give the right of way, the ambulance must yield.

so if the land rover didnt cause the damage to the front of the ambulance, then what did?

I will take a guess that as the Benz was making the left turn the ambulance hit the passenger side or the right front broadside and inertia carried both to spin off on to Zechandorf and into the Land Rover. A friend was on OCR at the time but much further down and said the cop cars and ambulances were flying past him and were numerous.
Goodness can anyone read? The Benz and the ambulance and the Benz made a left turn in front of the ambulance. Probably some old geezer. Then their momentum carried them into the Land Rover.
I was on OCR as well a few blocks East of the accident just after it happened. The emergency vehicles were flying by in all directions and we were lucky enough to cut through the Walmart parking lot and avoid the traffic build up. I know they had it shut down for blocks, tried to go around it on Meadowbrook Pkwy, but the OCR exit was blocked off there as well.
