I have access through academia to the science journals that published the studies. I've been reading the studies about Sputnik, Astrazeneca et al.

This is not the whole story ..the testing was different…

The vaccines were tested on different strains in different countries with different age groups dominating …they cannot be compared by a simple percentage of effectiveness

Precisely and that was my point in my post. J&J was tested globally after there were variants with different age groups from the others. The Pfizer trials were conducted earlier and the efficacy rate was used for the emergency authorization. This is the rate that keeps being quoted in the media.

Husband and I had our second shot of Moderna yesterday. I stayed home from work today because I have 101 Fever and body aches. I have not felt this awful since we saw that Ronald Regan Film LOL. Last time I felt this crappy with a fever was like 20 years ago. Hubby just has a sore arm and is tired. He was off today anyway because he was going to take his mom for her second shot but since she is in Stony brook Hospital with another condition she'll get her second shot there they said.

I think the thing that gets lost is that these vaccines aren't intended to 100% make sure you won't get COVID-19. What they are supposed to do is mute the negative reaction you will have to getting COVID-19. E.g. if you get COVID-19, hopefully you won't be so suck that you get put on a ventilator and potentially die.
