Take a healthy cutting and a "dead" cutting too. Not too big, but enough to give them a look at it. My money is still in transplant and winter burn. Be sure to tell them when you planted them.

Pruning can help. Most trees also come with a warranty.

In general Nov is a little late to be planting trees. You want them to have more time in the ground to establish before winter hits.
