And/or lack of familiarity with the aspects of a particular one.

With J.B. the circle has two lanes with brief broken lines at the entrance points to cross over (rest solid white lines), confusing arrows, etc. and split seconds to figure everything out and remain on the intended route. People panic that their going to get locked into heading back up to the mainland on the Wantagh Parkway, get locked into the circle and start heading back on the Ocean Parkway the way they just came, etc.

Last minute maneuvers (many illegal) run rampant in the circle, it's like a combination of Olympic Oval Speed Skating and Roller Derby, only with cars trucks, etc. And unfortunately the more signs/arrows/lines they might add the more confusing to the average driver it becomes because reading and trying to understand all of them eats into their attention and reaction time.

yes people are dumb and there's plenty of idiot drivers out there - but in this case I think it's mostly just lack of familiarity. There's just not that many traffic circles in the area.

there's just SO much signage there as well. Not only are all the lanes marked, but there's multiple signs on both the left and right of the roadway as you approach. If you've never entered that circle before, it's easy to see how someone might get confused.

an even worse place .. the traffic circle at the north end of Bethpage State Parkway. Every time I'm in the loop there is almost a guarantee I'll be swiped by a mom in a Yukon, Ford Expedition, etc.

What has been even worse is that essential workers had the run of the roads with other essential workers, going where we needed to go in a quick and efficient manner. Then everybody else came back, rusty on top of not really having anywhere to be.

WAY too much signage/arrows/etc. IMO it would be better if they erased everything back to scratch and simply put up a sign saying "Entering Roundabout, Good Luck!!" Or borrowing from the famous (or infamous) Belt Parkway sign "Entering Roundabout, Fuhgeddaboudit!"

IMO the Bethpage Parkway roundabout is child's play compared to J.B. One of the main problems with J.B. is the slow speed limits on the approach, with a few people obeying them but most exceeding them by a considerable margin. The "obeyers" can get even more nervous with a driver(s) bearing down on them from behind and/or on their flank in the adjacent lane, right or left depending on the lane they are in.

The Jones Beach traffic circle was even worse years ago before they redesigned it a bit. It was very confusing even for careful drivers.
