My mother stayed at home with the two kids (as did every other mother on the street). MY dad did not make much money and I would guess he made a couple of hundred dollars a week. Lets just say that he made $15000/yr as an example. His salary was just under the cost of the house price. In 2021, the same house is $500,000, but most people are not making $500,000.

Blame government and all of the entitlements and the value of a dollar. Amazon pays what it pays. I delivered newspapers for Newsday when I was 16 making $20 a week. I didn't demand more money because I could not live on that. When I was 25 in the mid 80s, I got a job in an Insurance Company Mailroom for $!!,000 a year. I could not afford to support a family or buy a house. Guess what? That was my problem. Within a year, I took college courses, got a promotion and made a bit more but still couldn't afford to really live on my own with rent and a car loan. Again, that is my fault for not finishing college earlier on. I did not blame the insurance company, or the next one that I worked at. Nobody owed me a livable wage. For me to get that, I had to find a job that paid me enough. In the next year or two, I did just that. I didn't sit around moping that the top 1% should be paying more taxes and I should get assistance. No one else should be either.
It's not the entitlements, that's just you being brainwashed. We pay enough taxes to support putting men on the moon daily and giving everyone a Maserati. MOST of it gets looted by the 1% long before ever hitting the economy or is loopholed away or stashed overseas. And 40 years of money printing and no backing of the dollar and you have the perfect storm of wealth inequality. Time for all of you backwards dillies to understand it's not the POOR AND MIDDLE stealing the money. It's the crony connected rich and ALWAYS has been. That's who the politicians serve, no matter how many babies they try to kiss or hands they shake. They scare people, trick them to blame each other, decimated the middle class and now have them pitted against the poor (or black or immigrant or asian or old or young or woman or the wrong white). The rich made MORE during COVID than EVER before. Let THAT sink in. They've re-written monetary code to keep pumping fake money in like Argentina. Eventually it collapses. They don't get hurt. Main St gets KILLED. ALWAYS. Blame the correct villians. Yes, the dollar was worth a dollar. Now it's worth 3 cents. If it's all about entitlements, why aren't you OPPOSSED to Amazon getting an entitlement of OUR tax dollars?!? The actual point of the thread.

We all have choices. You want to be rich? Put up the capital, work 18 hours a day, work 7 days per week, mortgage the home for operational expenses, liquidate the 401k. The list goes on. Bottom line, we can all make as much money as we want. You want to sit home & collect stimulus checks, that seems to be the new up & coming employer, there’s another option. So many choices & decisions!

Welcome to America! I don’t see people fleeing elsewhere!

lol...poor things!...168 hours in a week, if 40 hours doesn't cut it, they need to get a second job or spend they're free time making yourself marketable.

Ah yes, the good ole days when you could afford 3 10X10 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, non air conditioned 800 sq ft home on a postage stamp lot with a warehouse job. You even had a driveway to park your 8 year old Chevy Biscayne, yep, I remember it well.

Actually more Americans than ever in history are fleeing elsewhere, especially the rich and retired. And to still think the rich got rich cause they "worked hard for it" is some 1950's era mythology. There is no level playing field. The game is rigged. Some work hard, some inherit, some steal. I know you believe the rich are just better in every way, clearly more saint like than the working person, deserving of our obedience and tax welfare. A waiter getting $9hr + tips, so he can stay in school and become a professional, screw him! He shoulda had a richer daddy!!

The issue is we're paying people $9hr + tips, but there are NO TIPS. Enhanced unemployment is covering service worker tips. Don't worry, it's almost over and we can go back to giving a shiny nickel (or not) for service. Pay a decent wage already and stop blaming the workers.

“Some work hard, some inherit, some steal.” That goes for EVERY working class.

What’s the definition of a “living wage”? Is that determined geographically? By occupation? By ones’s living/rental expenses? $17 per hour on LI your basically homeless. After all we do live in one of the most expensive parts of the USA (Another choice). $17 per hour down south your probably considered middle class.

No tips? Because of no workers? I just booked my summer vacation a few states away. The place I’ve been staying at for 15+ years informed me their restaurant will be closed for the rest of 2021 due to a shortage of workers.

I’m starting to think I’m the idiot. Stay home for $600 or bust my ***** for a few extra bucks more. After all the taxes & deductions.

Lots of entitled boomers here thinking the world is the same as it was in the 1950s.

If Amazon is getting government subsidies (which you all rally so heavily against) then it needs to pay a living wage. FULL STOP.

Rich people are amongst the cheapest people there are. I knew a few and they wouldn't spend 10 cents if they didn't actually have to. That said, they have no obligation to pay someone more simply because they are rich. Using that mentality, someone living in Muttentown should pay $1000 for an oil change simply because they have tens of millions of dollars in the bank. That is socialism in a nutshell. What's yours is yours and you owe nothing to anyone for any reason.

They do pay a living wage to those positions that warrant that level of pay. They do not need to support everyone who dropped out of high school and has to pick packages all day. They deserve nothing more than $8 hr. Nothing more. Amazon may get subsidies or tax breaks but they are also providing a service, thousands of jobs and will pay taxes. What would be the benefit of them not being here? All of those jobs are gone.
